Hai to Diamond (灰とダイヤモンド, Ashes and Diamonds) is a song by Momoiro Clover Z. It was released on April 10, 2013 as the bonus track from the album 5TH DIMENSION.

Details[]

The song is composed by a long-time Momoiro Clover Z composer Kenichi Maeyamada and songwriter Natsumi Tadano. Tadano was longing to write a song composed by Maeyamada when the chance arises. She remarked the song is such a beautiful song of Hyadain.[1]

Hai to Diamond is delivered with orchestra accompaniment. The song is based on the poem[2] by Cyprian Norwid featured in the 1958 Polish film Popiół i Diament (Ashes and Diamonds)[3]:

So often, are you as a blazing torch with flames
of burning rags falling about you flaming,
you know not if flames bring freedom or death.
Consuming all that you must cherish
if ashes only will be left, and want Chaos and tempest
Or will the ashes hold the glory of a starlike diamond
The Morning Star of everlasting triumph.

The song debuted in Momoiro Clover Z JAPAN TOUR 2013: 5TH DIMENSION tour along with the rest of the song from the album.

Trivia[]

  • The song title is commonly shortened to "Haidai".
  • This is the last song to be composed by Kenichi Maeyamada, following his 2013 twitter controversy.
  • This is the longest song in 5TH DIMENSION album if not counting the Carmina Burana opening in Neo STARGATE.
  • As the last song in 5TH DIMENSION, the song is intended to be continued to GOUNN, their next single after the album. The lyrics in the last chorus "Hikari yoake rinne" (A samsara of dawn light) is linked to the GOUNN theme. GOUNN is also written by Natsumi Tadano.[4]
  • In the live concert, the song is often performed on a risen platform in the stage.
